How to grow vegetables in pots

vegetable garden on the windowsill If the space around the house does not allow you to organize a vegetable garden, you can choose the simplest option for growing vegetables in pots. This method of growing vegetables will save you the time and energy you need to dig in your garden, and the result will be much the same. Here are some tips to help you successfully plant potted vegetables and get results.

  1. Choose the right vegetable containers
In order to grow vegetables, you need a large enough container because they need space in order to grow. Since you do not have a lot of space, you need to plant vegetables that you often consume. It is important that when choosing a container for growing vegetables, make sure that it has holes for draining the water.
  2. Choose the right soil for your vegetables
In order for vegetables to develop properly, it is necessary to choose a suitable soil. It should simulate as much as possible the soil on which vegetables grow naturally. The soil must provide the necessary nutrients for the roots. In this sense, potted vegetables require more of these substances than vegetables grown in the garden. Thus, check the quality of the soil and change it if necessary.
  3. Plants' seeds
To plant seeds, make a deep ditch for each vegetable you want to plant by following the instructions on the seed bags. You can plant radishes, carrots and lettuce in the same container, for example. After you have planted the seeds, add another layer of soil and then water the seeds gently.

Place the pot in a warm spot on the window to allow the plants to take full advantage of the sun's rays. In order for vegetables to develop normally, it is necessary that the soil is constantly moist. Thus, the seeds germinate faster. It usually takes three to five days for radishes and a week to two for carrots.

The best time to water your vegetables is in the morning.

A vegetable garden on the windowsill is very convenient and beautiful, especially in winter. I have been growing onions and parsley for herbs in pots for many years. In late autumn I plant onions in large long pots and then I have fresh green onions all winter. As for parsley, it was not possible to grow it in a pot from seeds (very small and weak sprouts). I take deep pots (cut plastic bottles can be used), dig out large bushes of parsley in the garden and plant them in a prepared container. If these are plastic bottles, then I plant one large parsley bush in one bottle. It grows very quickly and several such bushes are enough for the whole winter. It also decorates the window. Try it - you won't regret it.

Growing a garden in boxes at home will require more than land, containers and watering. It seems to me that it is important to find crops that can be grown. Yes, radishes will grow in a box at home, but then it is better, as in Japan, to grow on leaves, there will be a lot of greens, the salad will turn out. Well, a greenhouse salad will grow in a box and it is easy to expel the onion. But you can't get carrots. Too deep container is needed. But the watercress will grow quickly. Peppers and special varieties of tomatoes develop well in such conditions. The main thing is to feed and water on time. And if the garden is kept in the off-season, then additional lighting is necessary.
