How to grow variegated dogwood in a summer cottage
In the process of creating hedges, a plant such as variegated sod is most often used. It looks like a large shrub, so it can often be seen in the compositions of landscape projects. Also, the plant is planted in city parks and squares. Variegated turf grows rather quickly, its bark acquires an original color, and its leaves have a bright border. Taking care of the plant is quite simple, so you can safely use it as a decoration for the site.
Distinctive features of variegated sod
Do not be afraid to replant the turf, since it adapts very quickly to any growing conditions.
The leaves of the shrub are characterized by a green tint, which can have a light or dark tint. The upper part of the plates is covered with a pattern of yellow, gold and white tones.
Flowering in variegated sod is long and colorful. It can be observed twice a year - in early summer and in September.

The shrub develops best in partial shade. The plant thrives on low trees. Almost any soil is suitable, but slightly acidic soil with lime is better.
Before disembarking, preparatory activities are carried out. You will need to add humus to the ground or compost... In areas where groundwater is very close, a good drainage layer should be installed.
Since the root system of the deren is well developed, you need to plant a young plant in a deep and wide hole.
Place the plant in the ground along the root collar and no deeper, otherwise the turf will not take root and dry out. If you plant a bush too high to the surface of the ground, then you risk getting many weak shoots. Planting ends with careful watering and loosening of the top layer.
The main stages of care:
- Watering. Derain for hedge should be watered a couple of times a month. Pour no more than 15-20 liters under each shrub. During dry periods, the frequency of watering increases. Intensive watering is recommended only for young bushes.
- Fertilizer. It is not necessary to feed the plant, but if you want to see all its beauty, then you cannot do without additional nutrients. Fertilize the shrub with mineral preparations twice a year. It is best to do this in spring (150 g of mixture for each plant), and use compost or humus in summer.
- Pruning variegated sower. It is best to prune in the spring. In March, you should remove shoots that are several centimeters ahead of other branches.
The hedge is pruned twice a year. After the plant has bloomed, branches that do not fit into the general view can be removed. For this, mid-summer and late August are suitable.
If you plan to plant one deren bush, then it is tied to a stick so that the thin trunk does not deform.
Derain feels good in cold and cold weather, but this applies only to an adult plant. Young seedlings are afraid of low temperatures, so the bushes should be well covered for the winter. For this, you can use both special agrofibre and ordinary bags. You need to wrap up the plants with high quality, fixing the material at the base.

Derain grows well in any conditions, and therefore the list of options for its use in landscape design is quite extensive. For example, sod can often be seen as a background for a bright flower bed, in which flowers will look more interesting.
Shrubs are also planted under trees, the branches of which start very high. In this case, the shrub adorns the trunk and also protects it from the winds.
The bush is often used as a decoration for large mixborders to make a living wall. As we said earlier, a turf hedge is a great solution. Also, the plant can be planted on the ground in the form of terraces. You should only regularly cut the bushes so that they have a presentable appearance.

Reproduction by seeds. The plant blooms in late spring - early summer. Balls with seeds are formed in place of the loose buds. The collection of planting material should be carried out in the spring, when the boxes turn brown. As for planting them, this can be done both before frosts and in spring. If you decide to sow in May, then it is recommended to store the grains in a cool place with a temperature of no more than +50 FROM.
Storing seeds at low temperatures increases the percentage of their germination.
Cuttings of variegated sod. Early summer is best for harvesting cuttings. Pruning should not be young, but last year's branches that have dense wood. It is important to ensure that each stalk has at least three pairs of buds.
Only the upper leaves should be left on the handle, and the lower ones should be removed. After this, the workpieces will need to be lowered into the water. It should be kept in the liquid until roots appear on them.
Cuttings are planted in rows at an angle in a pre-made greenhouse. Water the specimens regularly, but not much. In the case of dry indoor air or excess sunlight, the branches should be sprayed with water.
If everything is done correctly, then closer to autumn, the cuttings will already have full-fledged roots.
In the spring, young bushes can be planted in a permanent place in open ground. It will take two years to get a large adult plant.
Shrubs are often planted as hedges. Adult specimens are cropped to give them the desired shape and size. The variegated dogwood in landscape design is perfectly combined with barberry, juniper or rose bushes.
