Does the dormant period of cordilina, home care (photo of the plant, if possible) have a very difficult time? A young bush with a multi-colored bunch of leaves was presented to me by a friend. I put it where there was a free space - on the north window, but the color saturation began to disappear. I moved it to the east side and the bush came to life again. And what to do with it in winter, keep it warm or do you need coolness? This is my first cordilina, I don't even know what she likes.

False palms are especially popular with gardeners who like to arrange tropical jungle at home. Unlike real palms, they are less unpretentious and have a compact size that allows them to be grown indoors. One of these beauties is cordilina, home care (the photo will be further in the article) for which is absolutely simple. And although not all of its varieties can grow in pots, compact and unpretentious varieties of cordilina thrive among indoor plants. They do not have special requirements for the temperature of the content, moreover, most of these cordilins are cold-resistant. The only thing they need is high humidity, to which they are accustomed to in their native tropics. And in gratitude, the trees, similar to palm trees, will delight you with a lush cap of bright leaves.

By the way, cordilina is very often confused with dracaena, which is also considered a false palm. It is easy to distinguish them by the structure of the root system: the first has white roots, with thickened nodules, and the second has smooth and brown roots. In addition, the leaves of the cordilina are petioled and have a central vein. And in dracaena they grow immediately from the stem and the veins are longitudinal.

Content temperature and lighting for false Cordilin palms

In their structure, the cordilins really resemble palm trees. They have a trunk, and the lower leaves fall off with age, due to which the top with a cap of young foliage is formed. Depending on the variety, it can be narrow or wide, solid green or multi-colored.

The type of product also determines the quality of lighting. Palm trees with solid foliage are less whimsical and can grow in light partial shade. Whereas variegated crops need sunlight, however, diffused to avoid burns. Moreover, for such cordilins, daylight hours should last at least 12 hours so that variegation does not disappear.

As for the temperature in the room, all cordilins feel good in moderate heat, 20-25 ° C. They do not have a rest period, therefore, the bushes continue to grow in winter, albeit at a slower pace. At the same time, for all varieties and species, it is important to maintain a humidity of at least 70%.

Some subtropical cordilins can withstand colder temperatures. In winter, on a cool terrace or balcony at 10-12 ° C, red, straight, undivided, southern and Banks cordilina will not disappear and will grow.

It is easy to care for false palms:

• all year round, they often arrange water procedures for them under the shower or by spraying, with the exception of a cool winter;
• water abundantly in the summer, preventing the soil from drying out, and moderately - in the cool season;
• during the growing season (spring-summer) twice a month, feed with a mineral complex;
• if necessary, trim and form a lush crown if the trunk is extended.

Adult cordilinae can reach a height of 2 m. Under the heavy deciduous cap, their trunk often bends and may even break. Therefore, it is better to put a support in time to support the palm tree.
