cleaning foliage in the country In the second half of autumn, the flower beds are empty. In addition to conifers, flower beds enliven only clumps of flowering sedum, perennial asters, placers rejuvenated. Viburnum shrubs become a bright decoration of the country garden in November, barberry, rose hips. The fruits of the snowberry involuntarily remind of the approaching winter.

The plot makes a pacifying impression, but it is too early for the grower to rest. Pre-winter is the time to prepare for the next season. Look at the photo hazel grouse flowers!

Preparing flower beds and ornamental shrubs for winter

cut and cover roses

Withered annuals are removed from the beds, the plants are sent to compost, and those affected by pests, rust, rot, or other diseases are burned. Perennials are freed from dry peduncles, cut off and, if necessary, covered. Additional protection is needed, for example, hydrangeas, rhododendrons, weigela.

Their shoots after sanitary pruning:

  • bow in the ground;
  • fix;
  • cover with non-woven fabric or film;
  • sprinkle with foliage, spruce branches or needles.

When the first snow appears, it is collected around the bushes, collected in flower beds and ridges. In frosts, such a coating will be an excellent protection, and in the spring it will give plants to drink with melt water.

In November, the last roses are showered with petals. They are cut off and hilled high, sprinkled with a loose substrate or peat mixture. On top of a 15–20 cm layer, a cover made of spruce branches and a film is added. In almost the same way, clematis protects, which are pre-laid on the ground and fixed.

In November, sprinkle with peat, mulch with sawdust, straw, beds with spring bulbous crops.

The flower beds, curbs and rabatki freed from plantings are dug up, along the way, for planting next spring, fertilizing the soil with manure, humus, rotted compost.

It is important to choose the rhizomes of perennial weeds as carefully as possible, which in spring risk becoming a big problem for the grower and drown out the seedlings of ornamental crops. If the soil on the site is acidic, it is useful to add dolomite flour in November.

Pre-winter sowing in summer cottages

sow flowers in autumnIn late autumn, a variety of ornamental plants can be sown on dug, fertilized and leveled flower beds. Among perennial flowers suitable for pre-winter sowing:

  • aquilegia, loved by many summer residents for long flowering and many shapes and colors;
  • hellebore;
  • gypsophila;
  • unpretentious perennial Iberis and other plants.

The list of annuals is even wider. For many flowers familiar to summer residents, seeds in the ground perfectly tolerate wintering, during which they undergo additional hardening and sprout together in spring. In November, flower beds are sown:

  • godetia;
  • cornflowers;
  • scented tobacco;
  • calendula;
  • cosme;
  • petunias;
  • matthiol;
  • purslane;
  • spurge edged.

Sowing is carried out while the ground is not frozen yet, but it has cooled down enough so that the flower seeds in the flower beds do not grow. After filling the furrows, the soil is compacted, necessarily marking the sowing boundaries of a particular crop.

Podzimny sowing perfectly saves precious spring minutes, which every enthusiastic summer resident lacks so much.

In addition, with the arrival of heat, when the seeds sprout, it will be clear whether additional replanting is needed, and places for large plants will be visible, which are intended to be the center of the flower bed.

Save seeds, tubers and tool

collecting flower seedsWhen completing land work on flower beds, it is important for a summer resident not to forget about spring plantings. In November, soil is collected for growing seedlings. The soil is mixed with humus, peat is scattered into bags and kept cool, for example, in the basement, on the balcony or in the country house.

In summer, summer residents collect seeds of their favorite flowers. Until November, he can dry inside the boxes, beans and inflorescences-baskets. In late autumn, when the grower has some free time, it's time:

  • thresh this crop;
  • sort out the seeds;
  • dry again;
  • pack up;
  • take care of their safety.

Dried gladioli bulbs and dahlia tubers are lowered into the basement. They are carefully examined beforehand. The remnants of roots and dead parts of old bulbs are removed from gladioli, children are separated, which are better stored separately. Dahlia tubers need to be cleaned of damaged, rotten fragments. Such parts are cut off, sprinkled with coal powder and dried again.dry the seeds

The planting material prepared in this way is transferred to bags, paper bags or clean boxes.

Before the beginning of winter, they clean, dry, and repair garden tools. Shovels, hoes, pitchforks, secateurs, brush cutters and pruning shears. Watering hoses, buckets and watering cans are removed for storage. It is useful to lubricate cultivators and wheelbarrows before the onset of cold weather.
