Currant pruning (video)

currant bush formation Proper pruning plays a key role in currant care. This is done in early autumn or spring before bud break. The purpose of pruning is to ensure the annual growth of fruitful fresh branches, to achieve high yields and quality of currant fruit.

An important aspect when pruning currant branches is the ability to distinguish the lifespan of a particular branch. The most fruitful are the branches that grow from 25 to 40 cm per year.

There are two stages of currant pruning:

  • Bush formation;
  • Supportive pruning.
