Overview of gas boilers for home and garden

gas boiler on the bathroom wall A gas boiler is a device for heating water by burning gas. Such a water heater is irreplaceable in the country or in homes where there is no central hot water supply. All boilers are divided into two large types - storage and flow-through.

Gas storage boiler

Storage water heaters consist of a gas combustion system (gas burner) and a tank that contains water. The tank has thermal insulation, because high-quality heat retention allows saving up to 50% of fuel.

The tank, switched off from gas, maintains the water temperature for up to 7 days, and all thanks to a multi-layer thermal insulation cushion.

A storage gas boiler for heating water is divided by the volume of water in the tank. For example, for the kitchen and shower (provided that no more than two people live), 50-80 liters are enough.

If the family consists of 3-4 people, there is a child, often a bath is taken, then the volume of accumulative boiler cannot be less than 100 liters.
For technical work, as well as in production, an ariston gas boiler is used for 200 liters or even more.

The advantage of storage boilers is that they work perfectly with a weak gas flow, and also store a large amount of hot water for a long time. Well, the disadvantage of such water heaters is that they have a large volume of construction, such a boiler spoils the whole look of the bathroom. That is why it is often installed in attics or basements.
Another disadvantage of such a boiler is the hot water limit. If you take a bath and use up all the water, then you will need to wait at least an hour for the other person to wash.

Gas boiler device diagram

The storage gas boiler has a power regulator that sets the temperature to which the water is heated. It also shows how much was spent during use and how much hot water is left. If you start taking a shower or washing dishes, do it for more than a few minutes, the boiler automatically turns on and starts heating the newly arrived cold water. If you no longer bathe, it continues to work until the water heats up according to the set indicators, then it automatically turns off and stores ready hot water for you.

Direct fired gas boiler

on the wallInstantaneous water heater, which is also called a gas column, is, in essence, a heat exchanger. The water is not heated in advance, it heats up the moment it goes through the pipe. The geyser begins to work from increasing water pressure when the tap is opened directly.

This design is very compact and convenient, it can be placed under the sink or behind the bathtub. The disadvantage of direct heating boilers is that good gas pressure, at least 12 mbar, is necessary for their sufficient functioning.

Just like the storage boiler, the geyser has a power thermostat, thanks to which you can set the outlet water temperature. In different models, the power adjustment can be either manual (using the handle) or automatic (the flame value changes depending on the strength of the water flow).

When buying an instantaneous water heater, pay attention to its useful power - the one that accounts for heating the water. A 12 kW boiler per minute is capable of delivering up to 10 liters of water with a temperature of 50 degrees.

Gas boiler safety Ariston

Modern devices have special valves and fuses that instantly turn off the gas supply if there are any violations - water has stopped flowing, carbon monoxide has got into the room instead of the chimney, or if the flame has gone out for some reason.

A review of gas boilers shows that modern water heaters protect us from possible danger, but it is worth remembering that the installation of gas equipment is a matter of great responsibility and should only be trusted by professionals.

Which gas boiler to choose?

boiler in the bathroomTo answer this question, you must first decide on the type and type of water heater. You already know about storage and flow-through, and you can choose what suits your needs and capabilities.

A gas boiler has a number of advantages over an electric one, namely, its low cost. However, mains-powered water heaters are safer and do not need a chimney.

When you decide which gas boiler to choose, pay attention to the manufacturer. The following brands of boilers are currently on the market:

  • Ariston is one of the leaders in boiler production. Reliable, durable water heaters.
  • Electrolux are also some of the best. The only drawback is that you need to do service every 2 years.
  • Termex are not bad models, budget option.
  • Gorenje - similar to the previous brand.
  • Edisson - good water heaters, judging by the reviews on the network, are very durable
  • BAXI - inexpensive, but very decent boilers, original design.

Installing a gas boiler

As already mentioned, it is very dangerous to install a gas boiler yourself. However, when installing a water heater by professionals, it is worth paying attention to some details. Before the boiler is installed, you need to obtain a permit for the installation of gas equipment in GorGaz or RayGaz. This will be easy to do if you replace the old gas water heater in the same place.

If a gas water heater is not provided, then you will have a lot more trouble. I would also like to note that the purchased boiler must meet all standards and have quality certificates. And then the gas water heater will serve you for a long time, providing you with comfort and safety.
