Charming and not capricious perennials - ground cover stonecrops

stonecrop ground cover Low bushes with well-rooted, fast-growing creeping shoots are in great demand in landscape design. Sedum ground cover - one of the most unpretentious plants, which will always find a place in the garden. Compact, up to a maximum of 30 cm in height, they will grow in a beautiful carpet over the area in a short time. Many of them grow small but lush evergreen foliage; others shed it for the winter. And some species hibernate with leaves only in warm regions.

Most often in local gardens you can find the following stonecrops:

  • false;
  • hybrid;
  • caustic.

Sedum false ground cover

It grows in the form of low, no more than 15 cm in height, bushes and eventually forms loose rugs. On the creeping shoots, green rounded leaves with a fleshy base are densely located. After frost, they turn red. By its nature, stonecrop is evergreen, but when grown in the middle lane, it drops its leaves for the winter. From the end of summer, the bushes are almost completely hidden under delicate pink inflorescences.

There are varieties of false sedum with decorative leaves - burgundy and even variegated.

The plant prefers light areas, with drained and moderately moist soil. Among other crops, it acts as an aggressor, quickly suppressing them during the growth process, which works very well against weeds.

Sedum hybrid

An evergreen representative of the genus tenacious leaves in the winter without shedding foliage. Grows in wide and dense rugs. Shoots quickly spread to the sides, taking root and spreading outside the planting site. Against the background of green small leaves, pale yellow inflorescences look beautiful, which bloom at the end of summer. At the same time, the peduncles themselves are quite high (from 10 to 25 cm) and rise above the bushes. It can grow both in the sun and in an openwork shade, under trees.

Sedum caustic

For its rapid growth, many gardeners consider it weed plant, so actively it spreads over the site. Growing up, low bushes (no more than 10 cm in height) form a dense green carpet, while leafy leaves leave in winter. However, unlike weeds, it is easy to get rid of too overgrown stonecrop - soft stems pull out well together with roots.

Acrid sedum blooms in early summer with small yellow inflorescences. The species is not picky about either lighting or soil composition. It also winters well and is able to grow without watering.
