garden euonymus Euonymus as a garden plant has many varieties that differ in the color of the leaves. Among them there are both evergreen and deciduous varieties, some have white-green foliage, shrubs with a red border on deciduous plates look no less original. Where to plant?

Euonymus is an unpretentious shrub, and grows well both in open sunny areas and in the shade. The only nuance that must be taken into account when choosing a place concerns variegated forms: so that they do not lose their interesting color, it is better not to plant such species in shady places.

The shrub prefers fertile soil, because it needs nutrients for active growth. It should not be too loose, since the plant grows quite a lot. If necessary, sand and humus are added to the hole.

The acidic soil must be limed, since the euonymus does not like this.

In order for the bush to successfully take root and not freeze in winter, when buying seedlings, it is better to choose sufficiently mature plants, not less than 3 years old. They are already well-established and even without additional shelter they will well endure the first wintering, and the survival rate in such cases is almost 100%.

How to care?

Spindle tree care is uncomplicated and includes:

  1. Gently loosening the soil around the bush at least 3 times during the season to provide air access to the roots.
  2. Rare but abundant watering. The land between waterings should dry out, since euonymus does not like waterlogging.
  3. Top dressing during the period of active growth. It is enough only two applications of complex mineral preparations per season.
  4. Preventive spring treatment against pests. It will help protect him from ticks and scale insects that often attack euonymus.
  5. If for planting "young" seedlings aged 1 to 3 years were used, they must be covered for the winter.
  6. Every spring, remove damaged branches from the bushes, as well as trim it to give the desired shape.

During garden work, you must protect your hands with gloves - euonymus juice is very poisonous!
