Why do grape leaves dry?

Last summer, my vineyard was very ill. At first, the leaves on one bush began to dry, and over time, the disease spread to almost all plantings. Tell me why grape leaves dry and what to do about it?

Grape growers are very often faced with the fact that beautiful green leaves suddenly begin to dry, and then completely fall off. This may be due to abrupt changes in climatic conditions, as a result of which the grapes become vulnerable to various diseases. One diseased bush can infect and destroy the entire vineyard, so it is important to start treatment on time.

Causes of drying out of grape leaves

Before proceeding with the treatment of the shrub, you should find out the specific reasons why the grape leaves are drying and what triggered the infection in order to prevent the situation from recurring. Crops grown in northern latitudes are more susceptible to disease. This is due to the fact that they must be covered for the winter. High humidity and minimal air access create a favorable atmosphere under this very shelter for the development of fungi.

The immunity of grapes is also affected by an insufficient amount of light, heat and moisture, or improperly selected soil.

If the leaves first brighten and then dry out, this indicates a lack of nitrogen. Grapes should be fed with nitrogen fertilizers or manure applied.

Diseases of grapes, their treatment

Drying of grape leaves indicates that the shrub is infected with infections or fungus. Among the diseases of the shrub, the most common and dangerous ones should be distinguished:

  1. Mildew... The leaf is covered with spots of yellow color with a white bloom at the cutting. Treatment: spraying with Bordeaux mixture in the period between bud formation and the beginning of flowering, and at the beginning of the disease - "Rodomil-gold" (provided that there is more than a month left before harvesting). Prevention: sowing dill between bushes.mildew
  2. Oidium. During a drought, ash spots first appear on the leaves, then they dry completely, and the berries crack and rot. Treatment: spraying with sulfuric solution. Prevention: ensure good air circulation within the bush and between plants, regularly thinning and removing weeds.oidium
  3. Gray rot... In conditions of high humidity, the leaves are covered with a gray fluffy bloom, which is carried by the wind to neighboring bushes. The berries turn brown and rot. Treatment and prevention: Tear off diseased leaves and burn, and spray the bush with a solution of 0.5 tsp. soda per liter of water.gray rot
  4. Cercocosporosis... The underside of the leaves is covered with olive bloom, passing into bunches. The berries acquire a lilac tint and crumble. Treatment: Tear off and burn diseased fragments, spray the bush with Bordeaux mixture.cercocosporosis
  5. Rubella... In hot summer, red dots appear on the leaves, over time the entire leaf turns red. Treatment: treatment with drugs Quadris, Fundazol.rubella
  6. Alternaria... The edges of the leaves dry out, and dead areas form in the center. Mold appears on the leaf during rains. Treatment: treatment with fungicides Skor, Kolfugo super.alternaria
