Why a purchased anthurium transplant and how to do it

transplantation of acquired anthurium The opinions of flower growers about the transplantation of newly acquired flowers, including anthurim, differ. Some believe that this should be done no earlier than the plant gets used to new conditions and undergoes acclimatization, while others insist on immediate replacement of the soil.

Decision making in any case remains with the hostess anthurima, however, it has been noticed from practice that a non-transplanted flower, especially a sufficiently mature and large one, often begins to disappear. Spots appear on the leaves, not only the leaves, but also the flowers themselves gradually wither.

Why does anthurium disappear after purchase?

There can be several reasons for the wilting of a flower, most often these are:

  1. Overgrown root system. Anthurium usually grows in small pots. An adult bush at the time of purchase has a well-developed root system. It is even difficult to remove such a flower from a flowerpot without damaging the roots, and often the container has to be broken. When removing the plant, it can be seen that its roots have acquired the shape of a dish in which anthurium grew - they are densely intertwined with each other and the earth is practically invisible. Because of this, water and air permeability is disturbed, water stagnates in a dense root lump, which leads to its decay.
  2. Lack of nutrients. In flower shops, plants are heavily fed so that they do not lose their decorative appearance and bloom for as long as possible. It is clear that after the purchase, the soil turns out to be depleted and the flower, accustomed to "fatten" from an excess of fertilizers, begins to wither.

For these reasons, it is still advisable to transplant the flower after purchase into a new, nutritious substrate.

Features of anthurium transplant

In order for the flower to bear the transplant well, it is necessary:

  • water the flower well;
  • get it out of the pot;
  • remove damaged (rotten) roots;
  • if necessary, if the roots are badly damaged, it is better to completely change the soil, and gently shake the old one out of the roots with a pencil or stick;
  • if all the roots are healthy, have a whitish-pink color, the old soil can be left so as not to damage them again;
  • lay on the bottom of a new pot, 4-5 cm larger than the previous one, expanded clay and charcoal;
  • pour a little fresh substrate onto the drain;
  • install a flower;
  • pour in the remaining soil so that it fills the pot and all the cracks, while not tightening it too much.

If the root system of the anthurium is badly rotted, you should remove all the soil, cut off the bad roots, sprinkle the cuts with activated charcoal and let them dry a little.

After transplanting, the anthurium must be watered by directing a stream of water along the edge of the pot. Pour out excess water in the pan. For irrigation, use settled water, to which you can sometimes add a little citric acid.

    Tell me I want to buy anthurium, but there are 2.3 roots in it .. but I want its weight to plant more in the pot after the purchase, it is not necessary to divide it, you can plant the weight so that it would be lush or what to do

    You can plant a whole bush. So it really will be more magnificent, but just such an anthurium will need to be transplanted faster, since it will outgrow its pot faster.
