Chrysanthemum cuttings rules

chrysanthemum cuttings Chrysanthemum is an unpretentious flower, so you can cut up to 60% of the mother bush. Green cuttings of chrysanthemums are carried out from mid-May to early July. For cuttings, it is necessary to prepare a fertile soil of sand, peat, garden soil and vermiculite. It is very important that fertile soil for chrysanthemums was loose, so all components are carefully sieved through a sieve.

Soil preparation

The bottom of the container for planting green cuttings is covered with newspaper so that the box retains heat better, and the roots of young seedlings develop faster. Then a layer of sand is poured into the container and leveled to ensure water drainage. You can use river sand or pebbles. Next, you need to prepare fertile soil.

A bucket of neutral peat is sieved into 5-6 plastic boxes. Then sifted garden soil is added to the peat. Then another layer of sand is poured to give the soil additional looseness. Vermiculite is added last to the fertile mixture. If it was necessary to take one bucket of neutral peat, garden soil and sand, then vermiculite is added at the rate of 500 g for every 10 kg of the mixture. The fertile mixture is stirred and scattered into containers. You need to fill them in, leaving 4 cm to the edge.

Chrysanthemum at the initial stage of development is susceptible to fungal diseases, therefore, it is advisable to disinfect the soil with a concentrated solution of potassium permanganate. You should get a deep purple solution. The soil must be shed very abundantly. One box for seedlings takes about 2.5 liters of solution. So that the roots of the cuttings do not rot, sprinkle the well-shed soil on top with a layer of calcined river sand.

Correct grafting

You need to take green shoots from the mother bush. Each of them should have 5-6 leaves. The lower leaves are removed and the rest are shortened by 1/2 to reduce moisture evaporation. All nutrients in the first year chrysanthemum spends on the formation of a strong root system. Each stalk is planted at a distance of 2-3 cm from each other. Containers with seedlings are left in a well-lit room with high humidity. The chrysanthemum will take root and will grow in 10-15 days. It can be planted in open ground.

If you have been harvesting cuttings in the fall, then transplant them into separate plastic cups, and in the spring, plant them in open ground.
