Reproduction of aucuba: methods and their features

reproduction of aucuba Aucuba is one of the most ornamental plants, which is now often used for gardening at home. The flower has earned such popularity thanks to its foliage, so many are interested in the reproduction of the aucuba. This flower is really beautiful. Dense leaves have a striking color: yellow blotches are clearly visible against the background of greenery. The bush itself feels good in the house and is quite unpretentious in care.

Reproduction methods

It is not difficult to get new copies of aucuba for yourself or for a gift. This can be done in two ways:

  • by rooting cuttings;
  • growing plants from seeds.

When and how to root cuttings

It is better to start harvesting cuttings in the spring. It would be nice to combine this with pruning, so as not to disturb the bush once again. By cutting off the tops to stimulate branching, they can be rooted. Too long branches are cut into shafts 10-15 cm long. Each of them should have at least 2-3 leaves. The lower cut is best done along an oblique line under the kidney. Cut straight at the top, slightly stepping back from the kidney.

If time was lost in spring, you can cut the cuttings in August or September. Later, you should not do this - growth processes slow down by winter.

You can root cuttings:

  1. In a container with water, which should be changed periodically.
  2. In the wet sand.
  3. In a mixture of sand and peat.

Aucuba propagates well by cuttings and actively grows roots. But this will take longer than most houseplants. So, a stalk rooted in water will be ready for transplanting no earlier than 1.5 months later.

When the roots appear on the cuttings, they are planted in small pots with nutritious soil. It is not worth planting immediately in large flowerpots, it is better to reload the bushes annually.

Propagation of aucuba by seeds

This method is rarely used, because it is extremely difficult to get seeds at home. Aucuba is a dioecious plant, so you need to have a "boy" and "girl" available. In addition, pollination is carried out artificially. If the ovary is obtained and the seeds ripen, they are harvested and sown.

Only freshly harvested seeds should be used for sowing. During storage, they quickly lose their germination.

You need to sow seeds in a clean peat or sand, after having moistened them abundantly. Cover the container with foil on top. Periodically, the crops are ventilated and the ground is sprayed. The aucuba is ready for picking into a separate dish when a pair of leaves forms at the plants.
