We carry out the propagation of spirea with green cuttings

reproduction of spirea by green cuttings Spirea - flowering shrub, unpretentious to keeping conditions. There are over 500 varieties of this plant. Propagate spirea in several ways. One of the simplest is propagation by green cuttings. With this method of propagation, the survival rate of new plants is increased by 30%, compared with the rooting of woody cuttings.

In order to get high-quality seedlings, you must:

  • prepare green cuttings;
  • choose a suitable soil composition;
  • root the cuttings correctly.

Green cuttings are carried out in late August - early September, when the branches begin to grow stiff, but the sap flow has not stopped yet. For propagation, use adult bushes that have reached the age of four. Spirea cuttings are harvested from young annual shoots that have already faded.

The cuttings should have at least three deciduous buds so that the finished seedling quickly forms skeletal branches.

Preparing a container for cuttings

Immediately after cutting, the cuttings are planted in a common container. You can use a large planter or any other pot with drainage holes.

It is desirable that its walls are white, so the cuttings will get more heat. If your planter is not white, take an opaque bag and cover the inside of the planter with a hole to drain off the water.

The pots are filled with a fertile mixture consisting of:

  • two parts of peat;
  • one part of calcined river sand;
  • two parts of neutral garden soil or soil for flowering plants.

Then the soil is spilled with a slightly pink solution of potassium permanganate. The cuttings are dipped in root growth stimulant powder. You can use the drug "Kornevin".

Rooting cuttings

In order for the cuttings to quickly take root and form a strong root system, they must be planted at a distance of 3 cm from each other. If the soil is not moist enough, it is again watered with a solution of potassium permanganate, and the cuttings are sprinkled with soil a little.

Then cover the pots with cuttings with an opaque plastic bag. A cloth is put on the bag and fixed with a rubber band. The container with seedlings is placed in a warm place, preferably in partial shade.

The fabric must be constantly moistened so that a microclimate suitable for rooting is created inside the container. You cannot open the mini-greenhouse during rooting.

Every three days, a greenhouse with cuttings should be exposed to the sun for a day. At this time, watering is doubled. The cuttings will take root in about two weeks. After rooting, the cuttings are planted in a permanent place.
