What to do with a discounted violet bought at a store?

discounted violet in the store On the issue of transplanting a purchased plant, there is no consensus among flower growers: some believe that the flower should be transplanted immediately, others prefer to leave it in a store pot and soil until the bush grows out of it. However, as for the discounted violets purchased at the sales, here flower lovers are in solidarity - they just need to urgently change the soil.

Indeed, most often discounted plants already have problems at least with their appearance, and even with "health", and it is quite possible that violets are damaged by root rot. In addition, they grow in transport soil (peat), which contains practically no nutrients. And during watering, the water does not stay in the pot, but immediately flows through the light earth.

If peat dries out completely once, it subsequently loses its moisture retention property.

Where to plant?

It is not for nothing that violets are sold in small pots, because these plants do not need large containers. Delicate beauties are grown because of their gorgeous flowering, but the violet will not bloom in a spacious flowerpot until the root system completely fills it, and this will not happen soon. In the worst case, the flower may simply die, rotting, because such a volume of soil dries out very slowly.

The most optimal diameter of a flowerpot for a young violet is no more than 10 cm, while the presence of a drainage hole in it is mandatory.

What kind of soil do violets like?

It is best to plant flowers in a special soil mixture, in this case, intended for violets. It contains various additives necessary for growth and blooming violets, including:

  • humic substances;
  • useful phytobacteria;
  • a complex of micro and macro elements.

Such substrates never cake and remain loose and airy, which is very important for maintaining the normal root system of violets.

Plant transplant

Even in the case of acquiring a discounted flower in winter, it still needs to be transplanted immediately, because it may not survive by the spring. To do this, carefully remove the violet from the pot and free the roots from the store soil. If there are rotten, dry or damaged roots, they should be trimmed. This also applies to leaves.

Pour fresh soil into a new pot and carefully set the bush in the center. Sprinkle the planted violet with phytosporin solution (1 tsp per 1 liter of water).

In order for the plant to start actively growing new roots and leaves, the pot after transplanting must be placed on a warm windowsill, avoiding cold windows.
