Caring for cypress in the garden - we grow a capricious southerner on our site

caring for cypress in the garden Among evergreen crops, cypress is rightfully considered one of the most beautiful plants. At the same time, it is quite whimsical, so it is important to study cypress care before buying it. The wrong place or lack of additional power can negate all expectations. You want to have a slender and lush handsome man, and not a shabby trunk with infrequent leaves? Then read carefully on.

Where to plant cypress on the site

Slightly like a spruce, a slender handsome man, cypress looks great both in group compositions and in splendid isolation. When choosing a place for cypress in your garden, keep in mind that the handsome southern man loves peace and quiet. Plant it further away from the road, in a secluded corner where the wind won't scoff at the tree. Also, do not forget that although cypress is picky about lighting, it does not tolerate direct rays. In this case, a well-illuminated area should be in the shade for at least a couple of hours a day.

When planting cypresses in groups, there should be enough free space between the seedlings. The height of an adult tree can exceed 20 m, so they should not be crowded and shade each other.

Under natural conditions, cypresses can rise 40 m in height.

Cypresses are quite capricious, they react especially sharply to transplantation. Plant a cypress seedling in open ground using the transshipment method, without destroying the earthen lump. So there is less chance of damaging the root system, and the tree will take root faster. And so that the wind does not break the tender shoots, install a support for the first time, tying it to a peg.

When transplanting, do not deeply deepen the root collar. As with cypress seedlings, when planting them permanently in the garden, they should remain at ground level.

Caring for cypress in the garden

In the first year of life in the garden, cypresses need special attention. Provide them with proper care so that the trees grow stronger and mature by winter. Young cypress trees need the following activities:

  1. Watering. Pour in a bucket of water weekly in summer and more often in dry weather. In late fall, water with abundant water to help the cypress through the winter.
  2. Spraying. To prevent the tips of the cypress leaves from turning yellow and dry in hot summer, spray them regularly in the morning or evening.
  3. Top dressing. Feed the plants twice a month from May to September mineral fertilizers for conifers. Use liquid preparations by adding them to the water while watering - they are better and faster absorbed.
  4. Preparation for wintering. Although cypresses are evergreen, do not forget to mulch the trunk circle of mature trees with sawdust or needles in the fall. Be sure to cover young trees completely.
  5. Pruning. After winter, check all branches and cut off any that are dead or broken. In early spring, you can start forming the crown of the cypress, cutting off the shoots, but no more than ¼.

When the cypress reaches 4 years of age, switch to "two meals a day", applying fertilizers only once in the spring, and once in the fall.

Correctly and timely caring for the cypress in the garden, you can grow a beautiful tree.
