Making your own washbasins with a hot water function is a fairly simple task. The first thing to start with is to determine the type of washbasin that best suits your needs.

The main types of washbasins for summer cottages

Washbasins for summer cottages differ in their design and are divided into the following types:

• washstand on the counter;
• washbasin without cabinet;
• washbasin (washbasin with cabinet).

The first type, a countertop washbasin, is extremely rarely equipped with water heaters, due to the small size of the water tank and its instability.

Washbasins without a vanity unit are a structure consisting of a water tank and a sink. Waste water is discharged through a hose to the side or collected in a bucket and then removed. The filling cisterns of such washbasins can be equipped with water heating equipment.

A washbasin equipped with a cabinet (the so-called washstand) is chosen when you often have to use water. It is a structure consisting of a stand on which a tank and a tap are mounted; the sink is located directly on the cabinet. The drain of such a washbasin can be diverted with pipes far away or taken into the sewer.

Manufacturing of the main elements of the heated washbasin

In order to make a heated washbasin yourself, you will have to make or purchase the following components:

• rack;
• water tank;
• sink;
• curbstone.

The stand is used in washbasins without a vanity unit and serves to fix the cistern and sink. The stand can be made from timber treated to resist mold, or welded from pipes or a metal corner.

A water tank is attached to the top of the rack. It is important to correctly calculate the required volume of the tank, based on how many people and how often will use it.

With a small volume of the tank, warm water will not be enough, and if it is too large, an excessive amount of electricity will be wasted.

The water tank can be purchased or made from enamelled or galvanized metal. If you make a tank from thick plastic, it will be easier to install a faucet and a water heater, since all the main holes can be cut by yourself with a knife.

You can make a sink yourself, but it is better to take a ready-made, new or used one.

For the manufacture of washbasin cabinets, you can use any material that is resistant to high humidity: laminated chipboard, plastic, etc.

Choosing a water heating element

The water heater is the main difference between heated washbasins. To heat water in a tank, a heating element is most often mounted. If desired, you can connect the water heater to a thermostat, which will turn off the heating when a certain temperature is reached. The purchase of these devices is inexpensive, in addition, stores have a huge selection of them.

For added safety, attach the heating element to the side of the tank as close to the bottom as possible. Thus, you can reduce the risk of burnout when the water level in the tank is low; and the contacts of the heating element in this case will be located on the side, where splashes will less often fall on them.
