Does the Sensation grape need shelter for the winter in the middle lane, will it not be difficult to describe the crop variety in detail? Yielding to the persuasion of a neighbor, went to her "share" and we ordered seedlings at a wholesale discount. So far I have not regretted my decision - the bushes came in excellent condition, well packed and everything took root. It remains only to wait for the harvest and evaluate the taste of the grapes, but now I am more interested in how it winters. Is the variety winter hardy or not?

This grape is only a little over ten years old, and it was bred by a simple amateur winegrower, but has already managed to gain popularity among professionals. Extremely early ripening and frost resistance - this is what "took" the Sensation grapes, the description of the variety of which is gradually included in all reference books on viticulture. Why not, because amateur, large-fruited and tasty, the hybrid not only ripens quickly, but can also be grown in any climatic zone. A good immunity and winter hardiness only add "pluses" to its characteristics.

The culture is distinguished by its large bushes and fast growth rates. In total, during the season, the lashes increase 2 times, while the young growth has time to mature before frost. This explains the high frost resistance. Both old and young vines with bark that have had time to coarse easily endure frosts up to 24 ° C. For the south, the cultivation of Sensation is generally not troublesome: it ripens earlier and does not need shelter. As for the middle lane and to the north, the variety grows well and bears fruit there too. But only if you cover the bushes, albeit not very carefully. The vineyard will endure frosts, but then it will take a long time to recover and hurt.

The variety is self-pollinated and does not need additional pollinator planting.

Sensation grapes have good immunity against major diseases of the culture, especially before mildew... However, in order to protect the bushes from gray rot and oidium, preventive treatment is needed.

Productivity and taste characteristics

The variety is classified as early and super early. You can harvest the crop as early as 3 months after budding. This is important for cold regions, because by the end of summer the berries will definitely have time to ripen even in the middle lane. High yields are obtained thanks to large berries and large clusters. The average weight of one not very dense cone-shaped bunch is 1.5 kg.

The berries differ in almost the same size. All of them are large, weighing up to 30 g, finger-shaped. The skin is firm enough to protect against wasps or damage during transport. The flesh itself is firm, crisp, fleshy, sweet and with a slight nutmeg aroma. As for the color, it depends on the stage of maturation. At first, the grapes are yellow-green, then gradually turn pink until red.

Despite its young age, the hybrid has more advantages:
