Planting sprouted pineapple in a pot

growing pineapple in a pot Pineapple is a thermophilic culture. Even in southern Russia, it is grown in greenhouses. In the middle lane and in the north of Russia, fruits can be obtained only when growing pineapple in an apartment. The plant will bear fruit if you put the pineapple pot on the windowsill on the south side.

Pineapple, like any other tropical fruit, does not tolerate stagnant moisture, so the soil must be loose and allow water to pass through well so that the roots of the plant do not rot. Getting the right pineapple pot is also important. The root system of the plant does not go deep into the soil, but spreads horizontally in breadth. As a rule, the roots of a two-year-old pineapple cover an area of 2 m2, although the root system grows deeper by only 5 cm.

Rooting pineapple

In order to root pineapple, you must purchase a fruit with a deciduous crown. You need to take it by the leafy crown and scroll the pineapple counterclockwise until part of the core separates from the main fruit. To increase the area of root formation, dry and young leaves are removed. You can divide the deciduous crown into four parts by cutting it lengthwise to make several seedlings from one fruit. The seedlings are pre-dried to avoid the formation of mold on the planting material. If you are growing a whole pineapple crown, you do not need to dry it.

When the planting material is ready, place it in a container of water. The water should completely cover the bottom of the crown, but not touch the leaves to avoid rotting the seedling. After 10-15 days, the crown will give roots.

Use a high container to sprout pineapple. If the base of the crown is in contact with the base of the container, the roots will not develop. The container for sprouting pineapple should be transparent so that sunlight can enter the roots.

The pot is filled with a mixture of soil and sand in equal proportions. Since pineapple does not tolerate stagnant water, it is necessary to ensure good drainage of the soil. The sand content in the soil should be between 30% and 50%. You only need to water the pineapple in the pan. Then the roots will not rot. Pineapple is placed in the soil and covered with soil so that the soil covers the roots, but does not cover the leaves. After planting the pineapple in the ground, the soil must be shed abundantly. Then the pineapple will take root well. It will bear fruit in the 3rd year of growth in a pot.
