How to keep roses in a vase for a long time?

Having received a beautiful bouquet, you always want it to stand for at least a few days. In order for roses to stand in a vase for a long time, they and the water must be properly prepared:

  • you cannot immediately bring the bouquet from frost into a warm room or from heat into a room with air conditioning. A sharp temperature drop will negatively affect the flowers, so they should be left for a while in a cold (winter) or warm (summer) room for adaptation, and only after that they should be brought into the room in which they will stand;
  • before you put the flowers in the vase, you need to cut or cut the lower leaves so that they do not touch the water. Ideally, the stem should be 2/3 of its height immersed in liquid;
  • you also need to cut the ends of the stems, and obliquely (2-3 cm) and preferably in water, so that air does not get inside the stem. Additionally, you can split the tips. An oblique cut will allow the rose to continuously receive moisture, and splitting into several fibers will increase its volume;
  • it is better to choose settled water. In the warm season, it should be cool, and in the cold season - at room temperature. So that fermentation and decay processes do not begin in the water for a long time, it is worth adding aspirin, borax, vodka or alum to it;
  • The nutrients added to the water will help prolong the freshness of cut flowers. As such, you can use sugar (20-30 g) and vinegar (1 tablespoon) per 1 liter of liquid.

In order to keep roses in a vase longer, you should provide a certain temperature regime of the surrounding space, namely, coolness, but without drafts. Cut roses love cool air, but do not tolerate direct sunlight.

Additional measures

White roses You can extend the period of admiring a pink bouquet by performing daily procedures. So, the water in a vase or other container in which the flowers stand should be changed daily, thoroughly rinsing the ends of the stems under running water. After that, the bouquet should be actively, but carefully sprayed, trying to moisturize only the outer petals, without affecting the core of the bud. The water in the vase, of course, needs to be poured settled, with the addition of the necessary nutrients and bactericidal substances.

In addition, roses should be rearranged at night in a cool place. If they start to fade, you can carry out the following procedure - immerse the flowers in cold water with a temperature of 7-12 ° C (the buds should be above the water level), leave overnight, shorten the stems in the morning and put the bouquet in fresh water with the addition of ammonia (2 h. l.). This will keep the roses in the vase for some time.

Selection of roses

In order for the roses to stand in the vase for a long time, the flowers for the bouquet must be chosen correctly:

  • the bouquet must be made at the time of purchase, and not purchased ready-made;
  • roses for a bouquet should be chosen fresh, with clean petals, a firm bud, "squeaky" to the touch. If the tips of the petals have a dark stripe, the flowers have been standing for a long time and can quickly fade;
  • the cut of the stem should be light - this is a sign that the roses were cut recently;
  • the bud should be straight on the stem.If he bends down when the flower is held by the tip of the stem, then the rose is not fresh;
  • it is better to give preference to flowers on short thick legs, thanks to which they will be able to drink water better and, therefore, stand longer;
  • the rosebud must have a "shirt" - the outer petals are usually coarser, denser, dryish and not as beautiful as the inner ones. If not, most likely a few outer petals have been grafted and removed to create a beautiful appearance;
  • also a sign of a fresh rose is the glossy, vibrant foliage of rich color arranged on upward-pointing branches.
  • when choosing roses for a bouquet, you should give preference to pink and tea varieties, as black, scarlet and burgundy are more capricious.

Choose the right roses, make fresh bouquets, take into account the recommendations for preserving them in a vase - and these amazingly beautiful flowers will delight you for more than one week.

    A very good informative and relevant article. I really liked the recommendations for choosing fresh roses for the bouquet, everything is simply written, easy to remember. Interesting methods for long-term preservation of roses in a vase are also described. I have been using some for a long time (I add sugar and vinegar to the water, cut the stems obliquely, spray it with cold water). And for the first time I hear about the use of aspirin, vodka, or ammonia. I also did not know that there are special products on sale for long-term storage of cut roses. Thank you for the comprehensive information. I will definitely use the recommendations.
