How to make a lawn in the country with your own hands?

An increasing number of summer residents are arranging lawns on their plots. For some, it is a small piece of greenery near the gazebo, someone arranges a playground on it for children's games, someone combines it with a flower bed. Before deciding how to make your own lawn, you need to decide which way to create it you choose.

There are two types of lawn arrangements that you can use:

1. Sowing.
2. Roll.

A sowing lawn is cheaper, especially if you are going to make your own lawn. But this method will require a lot of labor from you, but our summer resident is not afraid of any work.

The second type of lawn device in the country with your own hands is laying a purchased roll carpet. This method allows you to make a lawn quickly and neatly. In addition, we do not need to wait for seedlings, take care of them. We immediately get a ready-made lawn that will delight us and our children. True, this lawn is relatively expensive, but beauty requires sacrifice!

After choosing the manufacturing method and before making a lawn in the country with our own hands, we determine the functionality of the future lawn. We will choose from several options:

1. Parterre.
2. Sports.
3. Parkovy.
4. Mauritanian.
5. Universal.

Parterre lawn differs from others in the refinement of its herbs, delicate emerald greenery and excellent decorativeness. It is arranged to decorate sites near buildings, combined with flower beds or alpine slides. It is not recommended to walk on such a lawn.

Sports turfon the contrary, it is characterized by increased resistance to abrasion and quick recovery. Therefore, it applies to playgrounds for giving, near gazebos and other places where an increased load falls on the grass.

Park or garden lawn is also quite sturdy, but less so than a sports lawn. Grass mixtures for such lawns cost less than sports ones, therefore they are the most common among summer residents. Children can also walk and play on this grass without causing much harm to the lawn.

Versatile lawn has a wide range of applications. It combines the properties of various lawns: decorative, abrasion-resistant, and shade-resistant. The use of this option is recommended in areas with different functionality and degree of lighting.

Sowing lawn device

Now let's talk about arranging the lawn with our own hands and illustrate the process in stages in the photo. First of all, you need to prepare the site that was chosen for our lawn.

To begin with, we will clear the site of debris and remove especially large weeds from it. Small weeds can be selected manually during digging, or nature can be poisoned using chemistry.

By applying chemical fertilizers, herbicides or other chemicals, you not only destroy nature, but also poison yourself and your children!

But if you use the techniques of natural farming, then you should do otherwise and your site will thank you with a beautiful lawn and a normal ecology. In order to destroy the weeds, you don't even have to dig up the soil. After cleaning the site, you need to cover it with a layer of roll materials: old linoleum, roofing material, slate. A variety of packing cartons, old carpet runners and the like will also work. Spread out all this wealth at the end of summer, and in the spring, remove and start planting the lawn with your own hands.

Now you need to loosen and level the soil, although worms and other soil inhabitants have already done part of the work for you under the shelter. Under mulch they actively work and loosen the ground. But all the same, the top layer must be processed with a flat cutter and trimmed with a rake.

After that, you need to sow the lawn as carefully as possible, for this, evenly scatter the purchased grass mixture seeds over the site. Make a longitudinal pass first, then a transverse one. Try to sow the seeds evenly. However, a special lawn seeder can also be used.

Now the seeds need to be embedded in the soil. To do this, use a rake or flat cutters. After planting, it is advisable to roll the seeds. This will increase their germination due to closer contact with the soil. Seeds are rolled up with a special roller, if it is not available, you can use a piece of pipe, as in making a lawn in the country with your own hands in the next photo.

The rolled-up area must be well watered by sprinkling so as not to accidentally wash the sealed seeds out of the soil.

Roll lawn device

If you decide to arrange a rolled lawn in the country, first you need to familiarize yourself with the dimensions of the rolls on sale and calculate the amount you need. The amount of material received must be increased by 10 percent, this stock is needed for more accurate cutting or to compensate for defects when laying.

You can see that the rolls of grass should be even in width and thickness. It is also important to evaluate the quality of the lawn itself.

Before laying a turf carpet, you need to prepare the base. Unlike a sowing lawn, a roll lawn requires a drainage device. To do this, the soil is removed to the required depth, and the prepared trench is laid in layers of crushed stone and sand. Layers of the pillow should be 10 centimeters thick and carefully tamped. Geotextiles can be used instead of sand.

After preparing the sand and gravel cushion, we return the soil in the required amount. We level the soil around the site using a stretched cord. After laying the soil, carefully ram the area. We begin to lay out the rolls from the side where they are folded.

You need to lay the lawn on the day of delivery so that the grass roots do not dry out!

We are especially careful when laying the first roll, because the quality of the entire site depends on how we lay it. After the first roll end-to-end in length and width, we lay the rest. The rolls are laid with an interval. As with masonry, joints on adjacent strips must be spaced apart.

It is impossible to overlap the rolls, but it is better not to make the distance between the strips more than 1 centimeter. If it doesn't work otherwise, it is better to trim the edges of the roll. Each strip is rolled up. After laying all the strips, the lawn is watered. Watering lead until the rolls take root. This usually takes about two weeks.
