Do you know the features of growing weigela?

features of growing weigella Weigela is a deciduous shrub with small leaves, but this does not diminish its ornamental value. And it is appreciated for its abundant flowering: beautiful bell-shaped inflorescences bloom not at the tip, but throughout the shoot. They are quite large, in some varieties the diameter reaches 5 cm. With such a density of arrangement, it seems that the branch does not have leaves. However, the latter are also quite spectacular: bright green, red and even motley. However, in order for a shrub to really fully reveal its beauty, you need to know the features of growing weigela bush.

Weigela has a remontant character. In this case, this is manifested by double flowering. The first wave of buds blooms in late spring - early summer, the second - in early autumn.

Weigela flowering: where is it better to plant?

Since the crop is demanding on the sun, it should be planted in an open, sunny place. With a lack of lighting, the shoots begin to stretch out, and flowering may stop altogether. But it must be borne in mind that flexible weigela branches are sensitive to the wind. For this reason, the site must be protected from drafts.

If it is not possible to find a lighted place, you can plant a bush in a light partial shade.

When it comes to soil, Weigela likes to eat well. If the land is poor, you need to fertilize it. To do this, when planting, the hole should be dug a little more than usual (about 60x60 cm). Instead of the selected soil, add a good amount of rotted compost.

We take care of the weigela correctly

Plant care is, in principle, not difficult. The main thing is that it is regular. The whole process consists of the following activities:

  1. Watering. It is especially important to frequently moisten the soil under the bush in hot summer. But at other times, you should periodically water it, not allowing it to dry completely.
  2. Top dressing. If fertilizers were applied to the planting pit, then they should last for two years. In the future, it is necessary to annually feed the weigela with mineral complexes. They need to be brought in at least twice a season. The first feeding can be done in early spring with nitroammophos. The second time, phosphorus-potassium preparations should be added after the end of flowering, in June.
  3. Pruning. Every three years, the bush needs to be rejuvenated by cutting out old branches. The rest of the time, it is enough to carry out sanitary pruning in the spring. Also, after the first wave of flowering, you can slightly shorten the branches.

When growing weigela in regions with frosty winters, it is better to cover it. To do this, the branches must be bent and put spruce branches.
