Efficient germination of pelargonium seeds

seedlings of pelargonium seeds Pelargonium is an unpretentious flower for keeping conditions. In the twentieth century, more than 200 varieties of room geranium were bred. To grow quality pelargonium seedlings, you need to germinate seeds. From germinated seeds, seedlings are grown that can survive a transplant even in clay soil. There are several ways to germinate geranium seeds, but the most effective is germination in a mini-greenhouse. With this method, seed germination increases by 20%, and even from low-quality planting material, seedlings can be obtained.

How to make a mini greenhouse

To equip a miniature greenhouse, you will need a plastic container. Marshmallows are usually sold in such containers. Cotton pads are placed in the container.

Cotton pads should be without alcohol impregnation, otherwise the pelargonium seeds will not germinate, but will rot. For a substrate for seeds, discs with a thickness of 0.5 cm or more are suitable.

Cotton pads are moistened with a solution of the drug "Epin". This drug is a growth regulator for indoor plants. If you pour an adult pelargonium with Epin solution, the growth of its green mass will slow down, while the growth of the root system will accelerate. This property is used in winter when growing royal pelargonium... The use of a growth regulator accelerates the onset of the dormant period in royal pelargonium.

When germinating seeds, the drug "Epin" is used to stimulate the formation of the root system. To prepare the impregnation, three drops of the drug must be dissolved in five liters of water. This low concentration will be sufficient.

If you put pelargonium seeds on soaked cotton pads, the geranium root system will be firmly woven into them. It will be inconvenient to transplant such seeds into the ground. The cotton pads will have to be cut, and there is a risk of damaging the young roots.

On cotton pads soaked in "Epin", you need to put a three-layer toilet paper, then the roots of the germinated seeds will be woven into it. When transplanting, such paper can be torn by hand. The risk of root damage is reduced.

When the seeds are placed in the box, it is covered with a transparent lid. There is a greenhouse effect. Thanks to him, seedlings appear faster.

As soon as the first shoots appear, the cover must be removed, since the wig effect negatively affects the growth of the aerial part of the plants.
