Resuscitation of Croton or when a florist becomes a doctor
Drooping leaves and a sickly appearance of the codiaum are the first signs to start sounding the alarm. Only modern resuscitation of Croton will save his life. Such symptoms are most often observed on the eve of winter. Before embarking on drastic actions, it is necessary to revise the conditions for maintaining culture.
Looking for a reason
Since the plant is the brainchild of the tropics, it needs humid air (at least 70%). Otherwise, the foliage will begin to wilt and dry. The second reason for the poor health of the flower is the temperature drop. This happens when the heating is suddenly turned on, or in order to save money, some owners screw up the batteries in the room. It should be understood that for Croton + 16 ° C is a critical indicator. Due to such anomalies, the roots freeze and cease to absorb moisture. It is best to maintain the temperature regime within 23-25 ° С.
The problem also lies in the soil. The tropical plant does not tolerate acidic soils. If the planting substrate contains peat, then it must be replaced with a mixture of sod / deciduous soil and sand.
Croton resuscitation: a set of necessary actions
The most basic thing to do is to transplant the codiaum into the nutrient soil. Of course, the procedure is advised to be carried out in the spring. However, such symptoms of the disease can also be observed in winter, so the flower requires urgent intervention. So, the surgeon gardener conducts rescue like this:
- picks up a pot with a drainage hole 1 cm larger (in diameter) than the previous one;
- lays broken brick on the bottom, having previously scalded the material with boiling water;
- mixes universal soil and crushed charcoal, and then fills a container with it;
- spills the earth with warm water;
- neatly places a seedling in it.
Prior to this, the plant is gently removed from the container, separating the soil from the walls of the pot with a flat object. Then the roots are examined. Dried and rotten ones are cut off with a sharp blade, after treating the wounds with a disinfectant. For the resuscitation of croton to be successful, it is important to compact the planting soil (knock out the pot several times), because air cavities are not useful for the roots of any plant.
At the end of the procedure, the diseased specimen is given a warm shower. The leaves are scrupulously washed with water. Next, the tree is covered with a transparent bag or plastic flask. They put the flowerpot in a warm (temperature not lower than 18 ° C) and well-lit room.
Five days later, the condition of the codiaum is checked. If the leaves have risen, then it has come to life. Now they are trying to adjust the irrigation system. Gravel is placed in the pan, and then liquid is poured there. The earth ball should be moist. Water is brought in when the soil dries up to 1 cm.
