We plant amaryllis bulbs: three options for how this can be done

planting amaryllis bulbs Charming amaryllis appreciated for its unique flowering, because this plant has one of the largest inflorescences. And their gentle or rich tones make the flower a real decoration of the windowsill. In comfortable conditions, if the room is light and warm, amaryllis blooms very quickly after planting. The main thing is to plant the bulb correctly, so as not to violate the timing of its flowering, and choose a suitable container for it. In addition, the further development of the plant depends on the quality of the bulb itself, which must be completely healthy.

How to choose a healthy bulb?

Going to a flower shop for amaryllis, when buying bulbs, you need to pay attention to the following points:

  • the outside of the bulb must be dry;
  • there should be no rotting areas on it.

If the upper scales of the bulb are brown and dry, there is nothing to worry about - all bulbous crops are characterized by the gradual dying off of the upper petals.

How to choose a pot?

When planting amaryllis, it is important to use a suitable flowerpot, the size of which depends on the size of the individual bulb. When choosing a pot, it is necessary to be guided by the following rule: the diameter of the container should exceed the diameter of the onion by no more than 2-3 cm.

In a deep and wide pot, amaryllis will not bloom soon and its inflorescences will be smaller. However, under such conditions, the plant will actively increase the mass of the bulb, drive leaves and form children.

How can you plant?

Like other indoor plants, amaryllis needs good drainage, otherwise it will quickly rot. For these purposes, expanded clay is suitable. But this is not enough for flowering - you still need to plant the bulb correctly. To do this, you can use one of the methods of your choice:

  1. Single landing... Put a sufficiently thick layer of expanded clay in the selected pot, pour nutritious and light enough soil on top of the drainage. Install the bulb so that it is buried in the ground no more than 1/3 of its height. Lightly sprinkle it with earth (when watering, it will go down).
  2. Group landing... Since the root system of the bulbs is not very large, 3-4 things can be planted together in one shallow bowl. At the same time, 2 cm should be retreated from the edge of the pot so that the bulbs have room to grow. Deepen also slightly.
  3. Landing in the water... For this method, it is good to use hourglass-shaped glass bulbs (tapering in the middle) because the bottom of the bulb should not be in the water. But the roots should just reach the liquid. Then moisture will flow to the flower, but at the same time it will not rot.

If you plan to plant amaryllis in a large pot in order to get babies, then the bulb will need to be deepened completely.
