Make your own tool for watering the site

watering hose storage Plot watering tools are sold at garden stores. Long hose lengths can be inconvenient. The hose clings to trees and bushes and the water pressure drops. For convenient operation and storage of soft hoses, you can use plastic drums. There are reels on sale, on which you can reel 15, 25, 35 and 50 m of hose. If you need to store longer hoses, you can make such a drum yourself from scrap materials. To make a drum for storing a metal hose, you will need: a grinder, drill, welding machine, metal wire rod with a diameter of 5 mm and a template for making circles.

Making a drum from metal

As a template for making circles, you can use a plywood sheet, onto which metal corners are screwed along the contour of the drawn circle. The wire rod is clamped between two corners and a circle is formed from it. Then the wire is welded. It is also necessary to make an inner circle with a smaller diameter. To do this, you can put a three-liter pan in the center of the template. Bend and weld the inner circle along the diameter of the bottom of the pan. After that, at the same distance, dividing the circles into segments, pieces of wire rod are welded. It turns out one drum wheel.

You need to make a pair of these wheels. Then, their inner rings are welded together with wire rod pieces. A hole with a diameter of 8 mm is obtained in the center of the rings. A threaded pin is threaded into this hole, onto which a nut is screwed so that when the hose is stored, the drum handle does not scroll. To quickly wind up the hose after work, a handle from a grinder is screwed onto the thread. The metal drum is ready. For convenient work with it, you need to make a stand.

Making a drum stand

To make the stand, it is necessary to use two pieces of a hairpin with a thread of 1.2 m each and two pieces of wire rod, as well as a metal pipe with a diameter of 5 mm. One piece of pipe must be cut to form a stand for the drum handle. Next, two pieces of hairpin are welded together using a wire rod. A cut pipe is welded to one leg of the stand, and a whole one is welded to the second segment. With the help of a grinder, pegs are made from a metal hairpin. Then such a stand is inserted into the ground. A drum is placed on this support with a hose wound around it.
