We determine the diseases of sweet cherry and the fight against them, photo to help

cherry moniliosis disease Growing a healthier cherry tree is not easy. Diseases of cherries with photos and the fight against them is the topic of the article. A tree is sick when it is weakened by improper care, insufficient nutrition. Due to early fruiting, diseases rarely harvest. If you do not carry out systemic protection of the garden, ailments are introduced deeper, the cherry loses its strength and it is no longer possible to save the harvest - you will have to fight for the life of the tree.

Cherry diseases

All cherry diseases are classified according to their distribution:

  1. Fungal, forming spots, dying off of leaves, berries, trunks. This is the most common type of disease. They are spread by spores, carried by a dirty tool, by the wind.
  2. Bacterial - microbial infection, insect pests, wind, dirty tools.
  3. Viral - are introduced by insects, transferred from one site to another. There are no drugs for viral diseases, they manifest the vascular system. Only removing the diseased tree can save the garden.
  4. Non-infectious - improper care, frost bursts, wrong and wrong pruning, sealing wet sections with wax, breaking branches under snow or fruit load.

Preventive measures, getting rid of pests from the garden and careful attention to each damaged leaf will help keep cherries healthy.

Brown and perforated spots fungal diseases

Cherry clotterosporia

The photo will help to recognize diseases of the cherry and to fight against them. Hole spotting is the most common cherry disease. The disease affects the entire plant, but begins with brown spots on the leaves. Mycelium and spores overwinter in bark and on branches.

To localize the disease, at the first sign, branches with diseased leaves are cut off, the wounds are treated with sorrel juice three times after 10 minutes, and covered with garden pitch. Preventive treatments in spring with copper sulfate - blue spraying. The first treatment with nitrophen gives the best result.

sweet cherry phyllosticosisBrown spot - phyllosticosis is manifested by round spots with necrotic attacks. Black dots - conidia are visible on both sides of the spot. With a developed disease, the leaves fall off, along with pycnidia, spreading the infection. The prevention and treatment of brown and perforated spots are the same.

Sweet cherry fruit rot

cherry fruit rotDescription of Fight against diseases of cherries and photo of fruits with them would be incomplete without a thunderstorm of cherries and cherries - moniliosis. A symptom of the disease is shrunken eyelids, and decaying fruits. The development of the disease is rapid, so even early ripening berries have time to deteriorate. The task of the breeders was to give the cherries resistance against sweet cherry moniliosis. The fight against the disease consists in the collection and destruction of screech, plant debris on the ground. For preventive treatment, copper-containing preparations are used. The whitewashing of boles in late autumn saves the tree from gray rot.

moniliosis of fetusesOn the fruit rot of the berries, the growths are arranged in concentric circles, as in the photo, the difference between the cherry disease and their treatment. At the same time, the leaves remain healthy. The berries are harvested, the branches with the introduced disease are cut off. Adequate nutrition with mineral fertilizers and spring treatment of the tree with fungicides is the prevention of fruit rot. On examination, you can determine why the cherry is rotting on the tree by the location of the pycnidia. A chaotic arrangement of growths is characteristic of moniliosis. In this case, the whole tree is affected by the disease.Leaves dry out, fruit branches become brittle, dry, skeletal branches gradually dry out. If a berry rots in bunches on a tree, this is cherry moniliosis.

Coccomycosis

coccomycosis of cherry leavesCoccomycosis cherries are a disease of a humid warm climate. Red dots appear on the leaves, below they are covered with pink spores. The leaves dry up, fall off, the tree does not receive photosynthesis, biological processes slow down. Cherry leaves in winter weakened and freezes. Prevention of scab - processing cherries with iron sulfate in the spring, before flowering. Later, the disease is controlled by Horus.

Why does cherry fall in the middle of summer? The tree got sick with white rust - a fungal disease. The fallen foliage is removed, and the tree is especially carefully prepared for winter - all the prerequisites are frozen.

Destruction of wood by fungi

destruction of wood by fungiCherry wood is weak, not resistant to diseases. Diseases of sweet cherry branches in the photo, and their treatment - pruning and burning diseased wood. Open sections must be treated with garden varnish.

sulfur yellow tinder fungusEven more dangerous is the false and sulfur-yellow tinder fungus, which has chosen cherries. White rot appears on the tree at the bottom of the trunk, in a crack. The trunk, affected by rot, breaks easily from the wind. The wood softens. It's impossible to defeat the tinder fungus. It has already grown into the body. It remains to remove the cherries, or regularly remove the growth. The yield is, of course, declining. The root cause of the introduction of fungi into the wood is frost holes, not cleaned and not covered.

Mosaic diseases

mosaic ringed cherryThe photo shows a mosaic disease of sweet cherry, and their treatment is impossible. Signs of the disease are found on the leaf blade in the form of stripes with a changed color, annular circles. The plate is deformed, changes color, dies off. Photosynthesis is disturbed, the tree weakens. But the disease moves deeper, destroys the channels of sap flow.

Prevention of viral diseases consists in rescuing pests from vectors and buying healthy planting material. If a tree is sick with a mosaic, it is impossible to save it, you need to uproot and quarantine the earth.

Non-communicable diseases

amber resin on cherryLeakage on the trunk of amber resin should not please the gardener. This is not an infection, but the tree tends to overgrow a non-healing wound, sending new portions of gum into the open wound. But the trophic ulcer does not heal, the wood rots, and the gum flows. The reason may be an uncovered frost hole, broken branches or incorrect pruning. Gum can leak if the tree sits on acidic soil or groundwater has risen.

After trimming an open wound should be allowed to dry, only then the dry cut should be covered with garden varnish.

To stop the release of resin, the place needs to be cleaned, treated with copper sulfate, and treated with sorrel leaves three times with 10 minute breaks. After the cut, close the garden pitch.

A similar problem, at the end of summer, thin streams of resin appeared on a branch grafted to a cherry, the foliage dries up and falls off. The cherry itself does not get sick, it has spread only on the grafted branch. What is it and how to fight? I have not seen this before. Attaching photo.

This is gum therapy. The disease does not always affect the entire tree at once. At first it can be on one branch, and then on several more. I have an adult cherry and for over 10 years one of the branches has gum flow. I harvest the fruits every year.True, the tree slowly dries up. I do not remove it on my own, but simply cut down dry branches. There are plans to plant a different species in this place.
