Growing cucumbers in cold climates in greenhouses

greenhouse for growing cucumbers You can make a greenhouse for growing cucumbers yourself. To do this, a box is made of chipboard, into which rotted cow dung is poured, the soil surface is mulched with hay or dead wood.

Borage frame

After the box is ready, you need to make the frame of the greenhouse. The role of the front wall will be played by polycarbonate sheets. They are installed in self-made door frames made from a 20 mm diameter wiring pipe.

For airing the greenhouse, vents can be provided. They are made from the same pipe, using the same technology as door frames. The vents are fixed to the door frames with hinges.

For the manufacture of external arcs, a polypropylene pipe with a diameter of 32 mm is used, which is given a semicircular shape using a soldering iron for polypropylene pipes. The arcs are fixed on a wooden case with hardware. To strengthen the structure, additional supports are made from the wiring pipe. They are screwed to the main arcs.

When the arcs are ready, holes are made in them to secure the agrofiber. Fasteners for the covering material can be made from electrodes.

Internal arrangement of the greenhouse

Inside the greenhouse, you need to install a wooden frame, onto which a trellis net for cucumbers is pulled. This frame will make it easier to harvest cucumbers.

You cannot grow in such a greenhouse pumpkin or zucchini. It is used only for rooting seedlings of these crops, as it depletes the soil too much.

To grow cucumbers in cold climates, the following rules must be followed:

  1. Install heat accumulators in the greenhouse. You can use regular plastic bottles filled with hot water.
  2. Cover the greenhouse with white covering material to create a greenhouse effect. In order to prevent the covering material from being blown off by the wind, it can be attached with a construction stapler.
  3. Open the foil once a week to air out your cucumber plantings.
  4. Change all of the soil inside the greenhouse once a year to add new nutrients to the garden bed. This way, you get excellent compost that can be used to fertilize other crops.

The covering material must be replaced approximately every four years. To replace, use a puncher, with which the hardware is unscrewed. To facilitate replacement, the film can be fixed not with hardware, but with office clothespins.
